January 3rd, 2012

Soup is satisfying when you’re on a diet, especially during the winter months. Even better, soup can help you meet your diet goals: studies show that soup produces greater feelings of satiety than other types of food. Researchers think that it may have to do with the high water content. Also, when soup is piping hot we eat it more slowly and that gives us time to notice when we feel full.

What are you waiting?

  • 5 + A Day – You know what they say… eat at least five servings of fruit and vegetables every day
  • Go fish – Fish, such as salmon, sardines and tuna, can be eaten at least twice a week
  • Trim the fat – Use lean meats, avoid frying food and beware of high-fat foods such as chips, cakes and sausages
  • Sugar – It rots your teeth and can lead to weight gain. Try sugarfree or natural honey.
  • Portion size – Eat the right amount to be a healthy weight.
  • Water – 8 glasses a day
  • A pinch of salt – Avoid adding too much salt to dishes when you’re cooking or eating meals and sea salt is better.

Detox

A detox is a program or diet that some people follow in order to cleanse their body from their daily toxins, meat consumption, pestisides (in food), caffeine, alcohol, sugar, refine flour, and many more substances. An Average American have 10-25 pounds of impacted fecal matter in his her colon. 90% of all disease and discomfort is directly or indirectly related to an unclean colon (due to impacted fecal matter).

Practitioners have recognized the importance of colon health in relation to the immune system, well-being, and longevity. Enemas had been documented as far back as 5,000 years ago.

Sings of trouble

Chronic constipation; the matter is to tightly packed together that bowel movements are infrequent and incomplete.

A person with healthy colon should in fact have two to three bowel movements per day, shortly after each meal eaten.

Elimination should be complete, fast and easy; stool should be light brown color, long and large in diameter, fluffy in texture and floating on top of the water.

Colon cancer is the 4th most common in America. It is develop in the large intestine.

Sing of toxic colon is the “classic potbelly” its impossible to have a flat abdomen when you are carrying pounds of matter, gas, bloating and heavy feeling that accompanies colon problems.

DETOX

A good detoxification program will target not only the colon but also all the other organs. Primarily;  liver, kidneys, lymphatic and blood system.

People with extremely weak immune system should be very careful with detoxification, they should work first on building and strengthening their immune system first and then use herb and supplements that include slow and gradual cleansing.

Don’t eat: cutting out all processed foods, sugar, white flour and white flour products, most dairy, fruits and vegetables treated with pesticides, food additives, coloring and preservatives, alcohol and caffeine.

Eat; whole grains, oat bran, organic fruit and vegetables, brown rice, fish and soy products.

Additional fiber; good fiber supplement containing both soluble and insoluble fiber can be essential to a cleansing and maintenance program.

Soluble fiber;  plant fibers that dissolve in water, fruits, certain beans, oats and barley. Slow the emptying time of stomach, delay the absorption of glucose into the bloodstream and lower serum cholesterol.

Insoluble fibers increase fecal bulk and cause feces to move through the intestines quicker.

When choosing Fiber supplements make sure to choose one with psyllium husks. Psyllium husks is one of the best sources of fiber, provide bulk and lubrication for the bowels. Excellent colon and intestinal cleanswer, strengthening colonic issue and restoring tone.

Detox with herbal and dietary support:  Wormwood to combat parasite, stimulate the liver and gallbladder

Raw Food

January 1st, 2012

Raw Food is considered living food, because the food haven’t been expose to any cooking system and it has their living enzymes that aid in digestion.

There are different raw food diets. Most people are vegan. Some consume raw animal products, such as raw milk, cheese made from raw milk, sashimi, ceviche (raw fish), or Carpaccio (raw meat). Some people eat only raw foods, while others include cooked food for variety and convenience.

People in this type of diet usually eat 75-100 % from organic uncooked and unprocessed food and they just drink pure, live water.

How to prepare raw food ?

Soaking and sprouting

Dehydrating

Blending

Pickling

Juicing

Heating above 118 degrees F

 What to Avoid on a RAW food diet;

Cook food

Kidney beans

Soy beans

Fava beans

Buckwheat greens

Mushrooms

Peas

Potatoes

Rhubarb leaves

Taro

Cassava and cassava flour

Parsnips

Food grown with pesticides

Food made with preservatives

Food made with additives

Food color or food dye

Benefits of a Raw Food Diet;

Increased energy

Clearer skin

Weight loss

Reduced risk of disease

Some concerns of the Raw Food Diet

Nutritional deficiencies; (vitamin B12, iron, zinc, and omega-3 fatty acids).  A study found that people on raw food diets have higher levels of homocysteine and lower HDL cholesterol levels, due to vitamin B12 deficiency. Both are risk factors for heart disease.  Some nutrients are absorb better when they are cook, for example tomato paste and raw tomato, a study shows that the body absorbs twice better the carotenoids eating tomato paste than raw tomato.

People with hypoglycemia or diabetes; should be careful with over consuming fruit juices.

It may not be appropriate for people living in colder climates or for people with certain constitutional types.

Side Effects

You can experience at the begging detoxification reaction. Especially if you previous diet was rich in meat, sugar, and caffeine. Mild headaches, nausea, and cravings can occur but usually last for several days.

As a nutritional coach I think is better to see the different types of diets and choose something that goes according to the person; habits, where she/he lives, weight and also give a balance alternative. Sometimes they won’t wet all the nutrients if they eat always the same or if they just eat it in one way (raw, in the case) balancing your diet I think is the best option to get the most of everything.

Scrub;

Regular scrub can take away the death cells and can help rub out keratosis pillars. You can make own scrub with sea salt or sugar, this are more gentle to your skin than the ones make with crushed apricots, pits or walnuts.  For the keratosis pillars try using a lotion with exfoliator, salicylic acid or alpha hydroxyl.

Using a 15 – 30 SPF is the best way to prevent skin aging.

And easy tip to consider too here is to change your car visor, so you can block the direct uv rays.

Eating Brazilian nuts will help you to stop the sings of aging for the uv rays. They have selenium wich helps fights back this.
